RACEWAY 81 SUMMER D3 FESTIVAL
2010
RACE REPORT
raceway81 D3 00014.jpg
The 21st of August saw 18 very keen racers arrive for the D3 Summer Festival.
A number of early arrivals had started setting up cars on the Friday evening, but Saturday morning saw practice through until 12.15 giving ample time for most to find their  way around the track and find a set up for their cars.

Concourse played an important part of the weekend and points counted not only for the individual concours awards but also towards the overall Victor Ludorum award which was the combined laps scores of all the 4 races + concourse scores for all classes.

Concourse judging was by all of the racers for all of the cars with a maximum 10/10 for each car.  Judging on Saturday for F1 & Saloon took place prior to Formula One Qualifying.

Race format for all classes was Qualifying ;- 1 minute all laps to count and then a 6 segment,  3 minute segmental race & win from any Final.
Tech Sheets and Concours voting slips were issued to all drivers on registration and filled in and returned to race control when requested.

Right;- Top 3 Formula One Cars
Saloon proved to be the slowest of the 3 D3 classes raced and again, track experience showed through, however, even for the home drivers it was a learning curve, having only raced Saloon as a club class once before the meeting.

Steve Kempson was the Notable “track newby” in this race with a very credible 4th place.

The cars looked great and even with good lane spacing it proved to be quite a “physical” race at times when passing cars with 4 1/4” wheelbases and longer.  Excellent fun!
Sunday saw the fastest Racing of the weekend with D3 Can-Am (and later in Tottenham Sports).
Late arrival Graham Stephenson (who had spent Saturday walking up a mountain in the Lake District for charity) had no practice and went in “cold” to the bottom final & then proceeded to do the fastest run of the race from the C final!  (also breaking the existing track record for the class).
The A final saw an incredibly close race in the closing moments with Steve Kempson, Chris Cowan & Andy Brown-Searle finishing for 4th, 5th and 6th, split by just 1 section on the track!
Formula One was the first race of the day and the top final was dominated by home racers with many of the visitors still finding their feet the first time out in a race on the track. So all credit to to Mick Thompson (1st time vistor) for his sixth place overall.
Victor Ludorum Stats
Top 6 Tech Chart Stuff
Victor Ludorum  was calculated not only from the outright lap scores, but also the racers points from their Concours scores.
VL points were published after races so racers could see their overall positions as the racing progressed. Congratulations go to Mick Kerr for a very credible 2nd place in the Victor Ludorum Results. It is notable that the VL points also reflect great results for other visiting racers making great efforts both in track results and car presentation, Steve Kempson and John Newton both making top 6 positions.

Concours Judging  in progress
The Crew at Raceway 81 would like to thank all racers who attended and made this a great weekend!
We enjoyed organising it as much as the racers enjoyed the racing!  And we look forward to seeing you in 2011 for another Summer D3 Festival!   Hopefully we will also be able to visit Wellingborough in 2011 for an “early year” round to the same format and maybe even carry over the Victor Ludorum Trophy to the Summer Festival so our Southern friends get a bigger bite at the Trophy!
Here are a few comments from racers published on Slot Forum ;-
Topic: Raceway81 Summer D3 Festival program now published (Forum: Events)

gasowder -- Yesterday, 10:47 AM
Excellent slotcar race meeting at a cracking venue.
Never eaten so well at a meeting before  Done the old BMI no favours at all!!
Many thanks from, Sandy, Ralph & myself to all the guys & galls at Raceway 81 for looking after us so well over the past weekend.
Looking forward to more D3 meetings next year.
Ed--------------------------------

Mick Kerr -- Yesterday, 11:03 AM
I've got to agree with Eddie.
Excellent weekend.
It was especially enjoyable to run the Tottenham cars on the kind of track they were designed for.
Thanks Andy and to all your local racers for making us 'southerners' so welcome.
Cheers.
Mick.

howmet tx -- Yesterday, 02:43 PM
Fantastic! Fast cars and pies. What could be better? Well, that 'whump' you get when a Gp20 Mura powered car takes the banking ranks high too.

Sincere thanks to everyone concerned. Great track!

Mike T -- Yesterday, 09:17 PM
Can't say much more than has already been said, great track, great venue and most important of all a great bunch of guys and galls. Thanks for making us all so welcome and for a realy enjoyable weekend.

DEDICATED TO MAKING SLOT RACING FUN
IN THE 21ST CENTURY!
Saturday racing concluded with the D3 Saloon event, but the track stayed open until around 9.30 for practice in D3 Can-Am and Tottenham cars while racers were fed from the outdoor Barbeque  and had time to kick back a little and socialise on a wonderful, sunny evening.
