Round One
1/24th Scale
British Open Championship
4th & 5th February 2012
The 4th of February dawned and despite the media hype of disastrous weather, those who bothered to check the Met Office website and those who were just intrepid arrived for the first round of the 1/24th British Open Championship.
R81 at 11am on Saturday the 4th
The weekend saw a mix of 18 racers from the South, North and locals to compete the 3 classes.
With more power available on the track this year and possibly some racers becoming more versed in the ways of the track the racing was fast and track records fell.
Saturday saw a little snow in the afternoon and as a precaution and also due the the number of racers, the Sunday program was adapted to ensure an early finish, to ensure that “distance” entrants would be well on their way before dark. Many thanks to all the racers who made the effort to attend a great, high speed racing weekend.

Sub Class Drivers
Concours Winner Richy Kettleson
Home Super hero Graeme TQ’d in production with a stunning 3.873 and completed a mighty run in the A final to take the win, with James running a good second. Richie Kettleson (home driver newby in his first BOC) took 3rd place with a very credible 4th put in by Gavin Wills.
Dave Bradburn took the sub class and 8th overall.
Race format was 1 minute fastest lap to qualify & 6 x 4 minute runs.
Concours Winner in OG12 from Barry James
Open G12 saw a mighty record breaking TQ for James Cleave, with fast times from Graeme Stephenson, Lee Parsons and Mike Read, alas, come the A final both Lee and Graeme suffered the perils. Martin Ellis made a great run into 3rd place overall from the C final after a disastrous qualifier. And George Kimber making the 4th place from the B final.
Race format 1 minute fastest lap & 6 x 4 minutes
Eurosport Concours from Pat Skene
Eurosport saw James once more perform a record breaking qualifier at 2.884 seconds. Fast qualifiers were also seen from Lee, Graeme and Dave. The format stayed at 1 minute qualifying, fastest lap and 6 x 4 minute segments. The top heat of 6 racers and the B, a 7 man sit out.
James absolutely monstered the race, with home driver Dave taking 2nd from the A with less problems than the more unfortunate racers and Franz, Neil , Les and Barry coming from the B final to make the top 6.
Graeme and James detach 2 mating cars in the A final.
