RACEWAY 81
FRIENDS AND FAMILY
RACE AFTERNOON
MARCH 3RD 2013

Having almost finished stage one of the development of R81, now with carpet on the floor, reasonable heating, a proven race control system + most of the facilities expected in the 21 century , it is now a mission to take slot racing to a wider audience in the North East

For everything there is a season and we thought it was time to show our nearest and dearest + friends what we do at R81 and give them a flavour of just how much fun Slot Car Racing can be !

In addition to a fun afternoon, this also gave us the opportunity to take some photos of both genders racing and having a great time, something which at open meetings etc. is a rare occurrence in the UK.

The format for the afternoon began with a fairly relaxed practice session with folk arriving from1.45 through to 2.45, then into 1 minute qualifying (all laps to count), followed by a 6 x 2 minute segmented race with the top 6 going in a 5 minute single lane shoot out Final.

TQ for Qualifying was

Laura Bradburn (never having

touched a slot car in here life!)

Thanks go to all who made  the afternoon a really fun event, the guests, the race marshals,  race controllers,  Debbie Bradburn for the now legendary chocolate cake and Graeme Stephenson for the original concept and preparing the house cars.

Without doubt the event showed a whole bunch of folk who had never raced that Slot Car Racing is fun and highly competitive!

This will not be the last event of it’s kind at R81, so watch this space!
